Project Description
This doctoral project focuses on the design and synthesis of ultrabright, magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles (nanoMIPs) targeting glycosylated tumour antigens such as sialic acid, STn, and Tn. You will develop nanoMIPs for rare cell isolation using flow cytometry (FACS) and magnetic capture, enabling single-cell and multiomics analysis of circulating tumour cells (CTCs). The work combines advanced polymer synthesis, nanoparticle engineering, and material characterisation, with applications in liquid biopsies. Close collaboration with interdisciplinary partner teams will support integration into proteomics workflows and biomarker discovery, contributing to the advancement of precision oncology.
Candidate requirements
Candidates must have a master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, preferably in organic, polymer, bio, or analytical chemistry, with a solid background in organic and/or polymer synthesis. Practical experience in experimental laboratory work is essential. Knowledge of polymer chemistry and optical spectroscopy is expected, and familiarity with nano- and microparticles in analytical applications as well as in cell experiments is an advantage. Expertise in synthetic receptors and molecular imprinting technology is a valuable asset, especially in interdisciplinary research contexts. Strong scientific writing and presentation skills in English are required.
