Background: I hold a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Cologne, where I studied the molecular mechanisms of extracellular protein secretion. After graduation, I worked in R&D at a biotech company, focusing on CAR-T cell therapy.

My PhD goals: During my PhD, I aim to establish a MIP-based platform for the analysis of circulating tumor cells for diagnosis and prognosis of patients, while developing into an independent researcher.

Master thesis: TANGO1- and HSP47-dependent secretion of large ECM molecules

 Extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins are synthesized inside the cell and subsequently secreted into the extracellular space, where they provide structural support and regulate tissue function. The secretion of large ECM proteins, such as collagens, requires specialized transport mechanisms that are not yet fully understood. This work investigated the roles of Transport and Golgi Organization 1 (TANGO1) and heat shock protein 47 (HSP47) in the secretion and assembly of ECM components. Using cellular and structural analyses, the study examined how the absence of these proteins affects ECM protein secretion, organization, and matrix formation. The results demonstrate that TANGO1 and HSP47 are important for the efficient secretion and proper assembly of multiple ECM proteins and contribute to maintaining the structural integrity of the ECM. At the same time, the findings indicate that ECM secretion is a robust and multifaceted process, suggesting the existence of additional mechanisms that support the export of large extracellular proteins.
